Ferrule is a synesthetic performance inspired by Alan Moore’s belief that artists are the last shamans in modern society. Ferrule is a metal band that connects two objects. It is a metaphor for the connection between the physical realm and the spiritual realm. I use Ableton in conjunction with Max6 to manipulate live video with midi instruments creating a synesthetic environment that imitates a spiritual ritual. Emulsion is a song from Ferrule that questions truth and memory by exposing the fallibility of photo documentation. Alan Moore’s belief that shamans share a spiritual moment with others is played out in Ferrule.
