Tied Up disrupts the monotony of everyday life with a huge tangle of twine that draws passersby’s attention to this small set back building that is often overlooked by the passing cars. Troost Blackbox is a small community art center that is also often overlooked for its importance to local artists and performers. Tied Up may draw attention to the building but it also prevents anyone from entering the building showing that the last of an exhibition space impacts the health of an art community. Art venues are often used to raise the value of a low income area, but when that location becomes gentrified the arts are the first to be pushed out along with the historical community that had created the unique feel of that neighborhood. Tied Up highlights the importances of preserving local venues and communities to build a lively art scene.
